When can you enroll?

Medicare has specific enrollment windows. Missing them can result in late-enrollment penalties or gaps in coverage.

Initial Enrollment Period

A 7-month window that begins 3 months before your 65th birthday month, includes your birthday month, and ends 3 months after. This is your first opportunity to sign up.

Annual Enrollment Period

Runs October 15 – December 7 each year. During this time you can join, switch, or drop a Medicare Advantage or Part D plan. Coverage begins January 1.

Special Enrollment Period

Triggered by qualifying life events such as losing employer coverage, moving to a new service area, or qualifying for Extra Help. Allows enrollment outside standard windows.

Common Questions

Medicare FAQs

Most people become eligible at age 65 if they or their spouse have worked and paid Medicare taxes for at least 10 years. People under 65 may qualify if they have certain disabilities or End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD).
Part A covers inpatient hospital stays, care in a skilled nursing facility, hospice care, and some home health care. Most people don't pay a premium for Part A if they or their spouse paid Medicare taxes while working.
Part B covers medically necessary services like doctor visits, outpatient care, preventive services, and some home health care. The standard monthly premium in 2026 is based on your income.
It depends on the plan. Medicare Advantage plans have networks of providers. You should check whether your current doctors are in-network before enrolling. Lifebridge Health has over 1,200 in-network providers nationwide.
Yes. If you don't sign up for Part B when you're first eligible, you may have to pay a late enrollment penalty — 10% for each full 12-month period you were eligible but didn't enroll. This penalty is added to your monthly premium permanently.
